It is not the dream of many people to join the University of Edinburg in Scotland to study actuarial mathematics. However, this is what Gareth Henry decided to do. In 2000 after he graduated, he worked for several years at Watson Wyatt in the management research department. Later on, he joined a U.K-based money management firm Schroders in the role of a product manager in a multiasset-class group as a strategic solutions director. At Schroders, Gareth Henry was significantly involved in giving clients advice on alternative investments along with liability driven solutions. It was later in 2007; he decided to join a US-based alternative asset manager Fortress Investment Group.
Gareth Henry is the Head of Investor Relations at Fortress Liquid Market. Henry joined Fortress in the year 2007 and is the managing director who deals with the marketing efforts as well as the investor initiatives globally for the Fortress liquid markets. Earlier on, Gareth was the head of international investor relations in the Fortress London branch where he raised capital, built client relationship in the Middle East, Asian and European markets. Through his hard work and networking, the reformed math nerd has been able to create ties to independent wealth funds, insurance companies as well as pension funds. In 2011 when Fortress Investment Group was named the credit-focused hedge fund company of the year by an institutional investor, Henry was also recognized in that event. He was described as an institutional investor rising star.
Gareth Henry has actively been involved in advising clients on the different areas they need to invest and get high returns on their investment. For instance, in 2014, he urged investors to put their money in Brazil. Speaking at an Alpha Hedge West Conference in San Francisco back in 2014, Henry said that Brazil at the moment before the election had provided great trading opportunities that can benefit investors. He cited an example that the equity market was doing well and that even after the election, it would continue to do even better. Gareth Henry has a first class honors degree from the Herriot Watt University and is also a fellow at the Institute of Actuaries in the UK as well as the society of actuaries in the US.
